Jakub (03.09.2010 16:01h): Frank+AliceCohen+Diakari+BrokenRecords

[RSS Readers: See post to listen to audio] I was just digging in deeper into the Wierd Records[its not spelled Weird, I triple checked] catalog and this song by Frank grabbed me over and over, the guitar line reminds me of some huge 80s hit, is it Dire Straits? no, I don’t know what it is but its buggin’ me, either way its pretty poppy for a cold wave label and thats what makes me keep going back to them. I wanted to include Alice Cohen in my playlist I did for Olde English Spelling Bee but somehow she slipped ... [Link] [Cache]

Shelby (02.09.2010 16:14h): Ciclotte

I’ve really never been one to hop on an exercise bike, but this new concept called the Ciclotte, makes me want to. Although I’d much rather prefer actually riding a bike instead, but this could be fun and great to use on those mornings where work needs to get done. The design is quite nice and utilizes carbon fiber. I’m not sure that is completly necessary but it does make it look a lot nicer. If I were to suggest an idea for this company, I’d say that they should create a unicycle out of it by removing the two ... [Link] [Cache]

Jakub (02.09.2010 15:11h): The Rorschach Suite

[RSS Readers: See post to listen to audio] In 2005, I started putting together a compilation of my friends music, my roommate at the time was Danny [The Reflecting Skin aka PhilistineDSGN] who did the cover art and also did a song with me under the name The Hexx which is still to this day the only song i’ve ever put out officially. I met a few others via the internet like Mux Mool, Wisp, Dafluke, and Ghosthunt on myspace or WATMM an Aphex Twin/BoC forum and the rest are mostly guys from Ann Arbor, MI my hometown. The compilation ... [Link] [Cache]

Alex (01.09.2010 19:31h): Kim Holtermand / Tuve

Kim Høltermand emailed to let us know about his incredible new series Tuve. I would love to find this place and see if it’s as eerie in real life as it is depicted here. Out of context some of the rocks look like abstract 3D renderings floating in space. It’s hard to imagine water that still. Breathtaking and haunting as usual from Mr.Høltermand. Jakub (01.09.2010 03:17h): Dilla+Star Slinger+Osborne+Sam Prekop

[RSS Readers: See post to listen to audio] If you don’t want a song stuck in your head than don’t check out this song that J. Dilla produced for Steve Spacek, i’ve been humming it since the middle of last week everywhere I go, in alleys and by the river or in my bedroom, “let the dollar circulateeeeeeeeeeeeeeee” HIGHLY RECOMMENDED I ran into one of the friendly guys from Small Black a few weeks ago in Greenpoint, he was walking home after just finishing recording their new album, I promise to have more up but here’s a taste with a ... Alex (31.08.2010 18:34h): Boolean Taxidermy

Zeitguised posted some new work on thier blog called Boolean Taxidermy. I want to eat it. That or float around and go to sleep in it. Anyway I think these stills are pretty remarkable. Check out the rest of their work to catch some of it in motion. via bdif Boolean logic is a complete system for logical operations, used in many systems. It was named after George Boole, who first defined an algebraic system of logic in the mid 19th century. Boolean logic has many applications in electronics, computer hardware and software, and is the basis of all modern ... [Link] [Cache]

Alex (31.08.2010 02:39h): Chrome Experiments

Swirling Tentacles by Steven Wittens No doubt by now you have seen the Arcade Fire + Google Chrome super experiment posted today. This was awesome. Mind still blown. The site where the work was posted is Chrome Experiments and there is a ton of cool stuff there to keep you occupied for hours. It’s my last day at IDEO this summer and I am having a hard time not playing with this every 5 minutes . Even cooler, some of the experiments have ‘making of’ links and you can read a little more about their construction. Warning: only interesting if ... [Link] [Cache]

Jakub (30.08.2010 22:33h): DasDing+XenoOaklander+Automelodi+Klaus

[RSS Readers: See post to listen to audio] Minimal Wave has its own passionate community, one that has a forum with involved fans, pretty much the perfect label culture you’d like to see. I picked up this Das Ding vinyl over the weekend after passing by it too many times at the record stores. Its a great LP all the way thru with minimal synths with a hazy goth/punk attitude, makes me want to dive back into more of these records that I use to love so much. One of the best minimal synths bands i’ve ever seen live was ... [Link] [Cache]

Shelby (30.08.2010 07:04h): Casa Kimball Vacation Villa

Casa Kimball is the ultimate getaway house that we all wish to acquire sometime in our lifetime. The house is situated on a cliff alongside the beautiful Atlantic Ocean coastline and clocks in at an outstanding 20,000 square feet in size. The house is also accompanied by a long seamless-edge pool and hot tub. However, I don’t see a floating green like I would hope. Perhaps when paying the $4,000 daily or $24,500 weekly rate to rent out the house, they would accommodate that desire. Besides this house being enormous, I’m particularly interested in the way the architect intended light ... [Link] [Cache]

Jakub (27.08.2010 00:24h): DOUBLE RAINBOW OH MY GOD! 2001 EDITION

We’ve all seen the famous Double Rainbow video, it’s a favorite of ours here at the blog but when you combine that with Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey, now that’s taking it to the next level of greatness. Jakub (26.08.2010 21:41h): Games + Sunny Day + Tamaryn + Etherea

[RSS Readers: See post to listen to audio] The other day I went to see Oneohtrix Point Never and Gatekeeper perform at Glasslands, it was some sort of label showcase i’m guessing. I picked up this Games 7 inch, super dreamy vox with chimes and flute under fatty compression, its like the background music for a daydream scene on Blossom. A Sunny Day in Glasgow has done it, they nailed their sound but on a ethereal level, maximum lushness, the girls sound great plus the they make every second count, can’t for this EP. Oh Mexican Summer, how great of ... [Link] [Cache]

Shelby (26.08.2010 07:29h): IBM System Photography

Came across these really great shots via Colorcubic’s Flickr. The images were taken for an IBM catalog in 1964. Take note of the great compositions and use of bokeh in the first image. Not sure that IBM would let that fly nowadays. Also, the super warmth and contrast of the film really make those panel interfaces look stunning. Seeing these images in spread form would be interesting. Rather curious whether or not the designer overlaid the type on them or if the images stood alone. In some IBM ads, it appears that type was both on and off the images. ... [Link] [Cache]

Jakub (25.08.2010 21:18h): 182 square foot home

This might not be ideal for some people but I hope to one day have a space like this. Seattle’s Steve Sauer who stands 6’2″ made a 182 square foot condo work for him, it looks very functional to me, i’m a fan of the space above his television and where he stores his bikes. Alex (25.08.2010 16:05h): Chillout Sessions

Both of these little worlds are part of the artwork created for the most recent Chillout Sessions: a compilation disc series put together by the Ministry of Sound Australia. The diorama-like concept was developed by Collider design by Andrew van der Westhuyzen and cinematography by Brycen Horne . They decided to switch up the packaging after the first 10 discs: The new Sessions concept involves miniature ‘worlds’ literally creating a package holiday that has both escapism and a sense of humour. [link] I want to shrink down to size and move into one of these miniature worlds. As a concept ... [Link] [Cache]

Kompakt presents (25.08.2010 01:01h): TOTAL 11

[RSS Readers: See post to listen to audio] Here it is for all you long time Kompakt fans, Total 11, I’ve been waiting for this for awhile now. It’s a solid listen, I grabbed 4 tracks that really stuck with me. First, The Field melts your mind with sugary psychedelic layered synth work thats mechanical and hypnotic while Justus Kohncke goes more with a disco meets Junior Boys approach. Michael Mayer goes abit downtempo with it, a little more safe and nothing like his old hit Speaker which some of you might remember. The real experimenter here is Mr. Voigt ... [Link] [Cache]

Scott (24.08.2010 07:37h): Porsche Museum

The Porsche Museum in Zuffenhausen, Germany is nothing short of mind blowing. The ultra-clean, super-minimal building houses over 80 exhibits chronicling the auto-maker’s rise to prominence. The whole thing leans pretty futuristic, would have liked to have seen a few classic cues here and there, but I’m certainly not complaining. Has anyone been yet? Looks like a must-see if you’re anywhere near Stuttgart.
